Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century the  Quarry was the main granite quarrying site on the island. From the slopes that gently slope down to the sea of the Strait of Bonifacio, the precious granite was extracted, recognized all over the world for its structural qualities and its resistance. With the advent of concrete , production stopped due to high costs in 1952.

Since then, there has been a mystical atmosphere in which only the megalithic granite dolmens and the monumental wooden cranes bear witness to the frenetic activity of the past. After 50 years of inactivity of the quarry, the heirs and owners of the Grondona family decided in 2000 to restore the houses and structures on the sea once inhabited by the stonecutters and their families to their old splendor.

The restoration was carried out with the utmost care so as not to distort the style and beauty of the complex, entirely built with the granite extracted here. The result is a unique combination of new and old that coexist in the frame of the bay of Cala Francese.
